2019 Volunteer Spotlight – Serena Follis

HOMEGROWN MUSIC FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Serena Follis is one our hardest working Homegrown Music Festival Venue Managers.  She almost always works multiple nights supervising groups of volunteers in one of our more busy and demanding venues!  We are so lucky to have her <3

Serena loves working the Rex Bar and likes to work all her shifts there.  There is lots of space for dancing at that venue and the atmosphere is always great and full of fun.  She loves spending the week of Homegrown running from venue to venue to see all the diverse local music.

Serena volunteers her time for Homegrown because it allows her to see great local music that she wouldn’t’ ordinarily be able to see and to hang out with like-minded people who are out and about to have a good time and make new friends.

Serena’s expert advice: Look out for each other and be smart! There is a lot going on and the whole festival is more fun when people are respectful of one another and looking out for everyone while having fun.

Serena says don’t miss Four on the Floor – she caught them at a secret show at Glensheen last year and was so impressed by their music and good energy.

Thank you Serena – we literally couldn’t do this without you!

2019 Volunteer Spotlight – Gavin Glen

HOMEGROWN MUSIC FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Gavin has been a pat of the Homegrown volunteer family since the 2017 festival!

Gavin’s favorite Homegrown Music Festival memory is Sarah Krueger’s 2018 set at the Red Herring Lounge.  He had just seen the Netflix documentary on Lady Gaga and was stunned to see Sarah K. dressed resembling Lady G in the Joanne album.

Gavin volunteers for Homegrown because of his own love of music (a guitarist and a singer!) and comedy.  He hopes to one day put on his concert. His commitment is deepened by Homegrown’s partnership with PAVSA and his commitment to a safe party environment for all. He likes helping keep people safe in part of the #metoo movement.

Gavin’s pro-tip for new volunteers is to keep a keen eye for wristbands!

Thank you Gavin and we hope to see you at the 2019 festival!

2019 Volunteer Spotlight – Linnea & Emily

HOMEGROWN MUSIC FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

THESE TWO!  I just get the biggest smiles thinking about these two who have been on our Homegrown volunteer squad for three years already!  You know you’re in the right place when the smiles on these faces are getting you through the line and into the fun as fast and friendly as possible.

Linnea loves Superior Night to mix things up and because the drinks are cheaper on the other side of the bridge and Emily says the Rex Bar is her favorite venue because the dance floor is superb.

These two share a love of Homegrown and feeling involved with something they love.  They love live music and being out and about with people.

Pro Tips:

  • Come prepared
  • Bring cash and snacks
  • Know the schedule
  • Caffeine and Water!

Emily says don’t you dare miss Big Wave Dave & The Ripples!

2019 Volunteer Spotlight – Jenna Aldrich

HOMEGROWN MUSIC FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Jenna has been a Homegrown volunteer for “at least 5 years!”  She loves Saturday night the best because it’s just jam packed with bands and venues. You will find Jenna at the door during HGMF getting excited fans wristbanded and ready to rock!  Her very first year as a volunteer she got to work security for Trampled by Turtles and we all agree – that’s a pretty rad freshman assignment! Jenna always signs up with a group of friends and we love working with them all to find the day and time that works best for the group.

Jenna’s pro-tip is to sign up to volunteer!  She says the staff is great at letting you know what to do if you are new to the festival.  It’s a great time and you get to feel like a part of it all. She also recommends getting yourself a wristband right away and ue the field guide to make your plan.  She reminds folks that you get a FREE weeklong wristband for volunteering!

Looking ahead to the 2019 festival, Jenna is pumped to see the Spin Collective and Big Wave Dave and the Ripples.  Her heart is already aching for those warm night walks up and town the street with friends taking in all the great Homegrown energy!
