2019 Volunteer Spotlight – Jenna Aldrich

HOMEGROWN MUSIC FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Jenna has been a Homegrown volunteer for “at least 5 years!”  She loves Saturday night the best because it’s just jam packed with bands and venues. You will find Jenna at the door during HGMF getting excited fans wristbanded and ready to rock!  Her very first year as a volunteer she got to work security for Trampled by Turtles and we all agree – that’s a pretty rad freshman assignment! Jenna always signs up with a group of friends and we love working with them all to find the day and time that works best for the group.

Jenna’s pro-tip is to sign up to volunteer!  She says the staff is great at letting you know what to do if you are new to the festival.  It’s a great time and you get to feel like a part of it all. She also recommends getting yourself a wristband right away and ue the field guide to make your plan.  She reminds folks that you get a FREE weeklong wristband for volunteering!

Looking ahead to the 2019 festival, Jenna is pumped to see the Spin Collective and Big Wave Dave and the Ripples.  Her heart is already aching for those warm night walks up and town the street with friends taking in all the great Homegrown energy!

2019 Volunteer Spotlight – Zachary Mattox

HOMEGROWN MUSIC FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Zachary joined the Duluth Homegrown Music Festival volunteer team in 2018 because he enjoyed HG so much and wanted to be a part of the crew behind it.  In his first year as a volunteer Zach worked two shifts and we saw him at out rocking at the venues every night!

Zach’s pro-tip is to have the HGMF volunteers put your wristband on your ankle.

Zach loves every night of Homegrown but West Side Wednesday hold a special place in his heart because he loves out West – making it extra fun.   In fact his favorite ever Homegrown memory is from Westside Wednesday in 2017 when he ran into Bella Larson and the Scene Kids and enjoyed a little pre-game action in the new tour van.  Zach lent the band some camping gear so they would be all ready to rock their tour!

When you see Zach at the door this Homegrown give our buddy a big high five!  We are so lucky to have him on our team.

2018 Volunteer Spotlight – Tina Marie Higgins Wussow

Volunteer Spotlight! As the festival approaches and 200+ volunteers prepare for training and scheduling it is never more clear that our volunteers are truly the heart of this festival! This week we want to shine the light on Tina Marie Higgins Wussow! What a superstar! Tina has been producing, curating, and hosting the Homegrown Music Festival Poetry Showcase for three years and it is one of the best events of HGMF! Its always packed – its always amazing – and it’s outgrown every venue it has ever taken place in.

Tina’s favorite day of Homegrown is the final Sunday “The sleepy Sunday brunch with friends, the delirium of it all, all the silly stories from the week floating around, and hugs, lots of hugs”

Tina’s pro tips include a reminder that HGMF is a marathon – pace yourself, slow and steady wins this race. She also feels strongly that Jacob Mahon is not to be missed! (This is not the first time our volunteers have told us this!)

When asked what her favorite Homegrown memory is – “I had just started dating my husband and he said, “I know you’re tired and I know you have to work in the morning but I just need you to trust me.” He brought me to an after party at 2104 and there we danced just a few feet from the Black Eyed Snakes. I had never seen them before and it was pure magic. My exhaustion the next day at work was well worth it. (Also, there was a Sunday about 4-5 years back when the Silk Sheiks played at the Saratoga…there was a Peter Pain fiasco and it was pretty unforgettable.)”

Your favorite Homegrown memory is waiting to be made this year!

We would love to have you as a volunteer – join the team by signing up to volunteer at: https://www.duluthhomegrown.org/volunteer/
