The self-described “bummer metal” music of Wilbur focuses on the angst and frustration of modern existence. Slow, fuzzed-out, earth-shaking guitar riffs and crushing drums provide a wall-of-sound-style backdrop for dark lyrics ranging from personal feelings of depression and anxiety to frustration at modern America’s lack of care for its most vulnerable people. Wilbur is composed of members of three other groups: Diegetic, Lecture Hall and Minneapolis’ Small Kitchen Appliances. The group is inspired by modern stoner metal acts like Bongzilla, Weedeater and Bongripper, as well as genre pioneers like Kyuss and Earth. The debut Wilbur EP is expected to be released by summer.
