Lyz Jaakola is a musician, writer, teacher, mother and overall friendly voice for community involvement. Her band is made up of talented family members and friends from the Fond du Lac reservation. Thematically, their songs carry messages of unity, environmental concern and a big love for their hometown (check out the “YMCA”-inspired “We Love Cloquet” online). Stylistically, the music provides an eclectic mix of dancehall, funk, folk and traditional Ojibwe. Accompanying her onstage are multi-instrumentalists and vocalists Jackson Ripley, Xander Ripley-Jaakola, Hunter Jaakola, Jagger Ripley-Jaakola, Jeremy Gardner, Christa Drake and Darcey St. John.
