The Mad Violin Scientist

Nick Hyde is a Duluth-based special events DJ and classically trained violinist who has become an innovator in musical instrument digital interface technology. “MIDI violin is a fusion of violin and modern keyboard/synthesis techniques, achieved by either modifications to the hardware of the violin, software, or both,” Hyde said. Using live-looped electronic dance music and violin-controlled visuals, Hyde becomes the Mad Violin Scientist, mimicking guitars, synths and other sounds to create electronic music with just a violin … and science.
