Monster guitars, bombastic bass and tear-down-the-walls drumming. The gigantic roar all adds up to the Duluth-based instrumental four-piece called Southpaw. The group calls their sound “post-midwest mathcore.” Others may call it sweet, tight, muscular metal music without all the yelling. The group features the twin electric guitar attack of Nate Pykkonen and Isaac Smith.
Dalton Hanson stands at the center of things on bass and drummer Nate Rendulich hammers it all home. Southpaw released the album Finally in November, earning a Duluth Reader Record of the Year nomination.
