As of a few years ago, the ponderers and wayfarers that make up Old Love were scattered around as river guides, field researchers, social workers, and mathematicians. For the last two years, however, the quartet has been diligently creating a style of music that breezes between upbeat indie folk and heartstring-tugging bops. Old Love features finger-picked storytelling by guitarist Nate Pollesch, inventive and exceedingly adept mandolin by Ben Cooper, and up-tempo builds by bassist Cedar Corey-Flatau and drummer Mitch Ihlang. Pollesch and Corey-Flatau’s shared songwriting is both clever and sincere, with vocals moving from raw and vulnerable to playful and poetic. Old Love is set to release their EP, Subtle, Science, before Homegrown and a debut album this summer.
