Four Mile Portage

Four Mile Portage is a banjo-fiddle vocal duet inspired by Appalachian fiddle tunes, community dance, and the wider world of Americana. Named after a Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness portage, this married duo brings old-time warmth and lively energy to the stage. Fiddler Brandy Forsman and banjo player Tom Maloney have been performing together for over 20 years. Well known around Minnesota’s Twin Ports, Four Mile Portage performs for Tamarack Dance Association events, including community contra dances held at Duluth Folk School, as well as at weddings and other toe-tapping venues. Rooted in tradition, their music happily wanders, blending driving rhythms, tight harmonies, and dance-ready beats.
