Fiddle player Brandy Forsman and banjo ace Tom Maloney formed the acoustic folk act Four Mile Portage nearly 20 years ago. Instead of hauling a canoe great distances through the Boundary Waters, the duo writes and sings dusty folk songs about tree stumps and fishing camps in Alaska. In recent months, the band has led a contra dance workshop at the Duluth Folk School, performed an old-time music revival at Bent Paddle and held a four-week residency at Zeitgeist. Forsman and Maloney will be joined by guitarist Kyle Orla and stand-up bass player Brian Zimmerman. The single “Turtle” was released in 2023.
