Darren Sipity

Darren Sipity is the nom de mic for Darren Shabaiash, an Ojibwe rapper who was born in Duluth and raised on the Fond du Lac Reservation near Cloquet. His songs, especially “Ain’t Even Fair,” highlight his super-clear conversational flow, which is full of words but also includes enough air and space to show he’s honed his craft but isn’t overtrying. For a special treat, head to YouTube and search for “Live in Minneapolis, Local Rappers Freestyle on Sway in the Morning Cyper 1.” Sipity is first up, and he represents himself well.
