Eric and Rachel Cyr began performing as a brother-sister duo in 2014, although they have been singing together their entire lives. Eric, who won the One Week Live Songwriters Competition in 2018 at what is now called Wussow’s Concert Cafe, plays guitar and writes the melody and lyrics for the group’s songs, which explore the cosmos with existential, story-form musings. Rachel comes up with the harmonies. The expanded group features Brady Kamphenkel on drums and John McLoughlin on keys. The latest Cyr and the Cosmonauts album, Songs to Sing Before We’re Dead, was released in 2021.
