Boxcar plays country music that could come from any decade since the 1950s. The band’s 2020 debut album, Cheap Hotel, is full of weepy ballads and mid-tempo tunes with classic shuffling beats. It would all be a lot of fun to dance to after a few Coors Banquets at the Pequaywan Inn. A 15-minute documentary, The Making of Cheap Hotel, shows band members Blake Shippee, Rick Bruner, Nate Gannon and Russ Sackett recording the album with producer Eric Pollard and sound engineer Tom Fabjance. Gordon Lewis has since replaced Sackett on bass. Shippee has a solo album in the works, produced by Erik Koskinen, planned for release this summer.
