Blu Volta doesn’t put a ton of effort into describing its sound: “alternative rock, riff-heavy style, lots of blues influence.” The members save their effort for crafting tunes. So what does it sound like? It’s bluesy and funky like Conor Glenn and Tom Johnson’s “whiddly-plink-waaow choonka-wicka cheownk cheownk” guitars. It’s groovy with Warren Mattila’s unrelentingly captivating basslines. And it sounds heavy and soulful like the immensity of Jake Alvar’s drums. For a Homegrown treat, they’re bringing a special guest harmonica player.
