Before Bill Bastian sang opera and oratorio, there was playing guitar and singing in bars. “Covering songs written 200 years ago, though not entirely unheard of, can definitely be different,” Bastian says. “Long-hair music meets long hair. Hoity-toity meets folk/jazz/blues/rock. A recipe for fun, if I do say so myself.” The genre surfer was busy this past December, taking part in the College of St. Scholastica’s “Messiah” sing-along event, Twin Ports Tenors Christmas and the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra’s “Home for the Holidays” concert.
