Don’t put Sea Monsters in a box – they will tear it to shreds. Midwest slime pop group All Sea Monsters Are Girls (or “Sea Monsters, if ya nasty”) float somewhere between ska, rockabilly, country, disco, soul, new wave, pop, and good old rock ‘n’ roll. These “theatre kids” toss in musical references into original tunes that center femme voices, supporting “women’s rights AND wrongs.” Kaitlyn Owens belts lead vocals alongside percussionist and omnichord player Stephanie Vex. The rhythm section features drummer Neil Vaidyanathan and bassist Ned Netzel. Strumming along is guitarist Kara Warren. Their keyboard player of the night will either be their usual Boot Perkins or guest pianist SJ Olson. Songs the band covers include tunes by Rihanna, Adele, Chappell Roan, Shakira, and a favorite by The B-52s.
