Robot Rickshaw

Troy Rogers’ Robot Rickshaw blurs the line between music made by humans and music generated from machines by programming the artist’s own creative impulses into homemade mechanical and digital devices. Often the compositions sublimely use a bit of music theory, theater of the absurd, math and musical instrument digital interface coding to create a collage of danceable clicks, whistles and beeping melodies. All the while, listeners wonder, “Who is really in control here?” But experiencing the music produced by the automatons and their Oz-like creator is far too fun to worry about having to share a dance floor with our future artificial-intelligence overlords.
