One way to describe Prone’s sound is to quote beatmaker and vocalist Chris LeBlanc: “Electronic-based with elements of R&B, funk, and rock sprinkled about.” Here’s another way: LeBlanc, his sibling Alexis and Ned Netzel use beats and vocals in ways that evoke Gayngs, a Twin Cities-area collective that sounds like nothing else but also exactly like the precise combination of its members’ crazy-diverse analog and electronic musical influences. On Prone’s EP Project 1, there’s a fair amount of rapping and singing. Sometimes a smoothed-out instrumental that’s light and airy but also heavy with electronic bass runs on its own for a while.
