Sometimes younger musicians, 20-somethings, tell Mel Annala they’re thinking of throwing in the towel. “They say, ‘I don’t know how many years I’m gonna give this before I give up,’” Annala says. But they’re talking to the wrong person. Annala is 67 years old, and didn’t start performing solo until he was 55. “I’m having fun doing this, so as long as I’m having fun, I see no reason to stop,” the artist says. Annala indeed shows no signs of slowing down, regularly bringing his folk/Americana mix of originals and interpretive covers around the region.
