This collective of American tribal-style belly dancers and musicians draws from multiple influences, but is strongly rooted in Middle Eastern dance and musical motifs. Denise Hooper, Deanna Erickson, Stephanie White and Jessica Bleichner take turns on leading the dances, working in real time with cues and gestures given to each other throughout each song. They improvise over the varied compositions of guitarist John Emmanuel. Joining in to hold the rhythm is Eldon Lindamood, who works with an array of percussion instruments, adding nuance and color to the guitar’s percussive, yet harmonic nature.
