Alberto del Toro

Alberto Serrano Rivera moved from Puerto Rico to Minnesota at a young age, spending time in both St. Cloud and the Twin Cities before finding his way to Duluth where, for many years, he fronted the introspective rock band A Winter Downpour. As a way to stay connected to his first language, he started writing songs with Spanish lyrics, taking inspiration both from his post- punk/rock background and from the music he heard growing up, including romantica, salsa and merengue. At first intimidated by the idea of sharing this music, Serrano Rivera found inspiration in how young Latin American artists in the indie music scene incorporate their identity into their work. Adopting the name Alberto del Toro for the project, he made his Homegrown debut last year, performing solo on electric guitar.
