A Winter Downpour

Serrano Rivera started writing dark, downtempo, indie rock songs as a solo artist under the moniker A Winter Downpour back in 2003. Then Rivera moved to Duluth and added guitarist Paul Connolly, drummer Ken Nyberg and bassist Kevin Zak. Things got even darker. Rivera says the music has a “sad bastard sound” with shoegaze and post-punk influences. The group’s 2017 release, Oh, This Pleasant Lake,, was recorded at Cliff House Studios and produced by Brian Ring of Lion or Gazelle. The result is gloriously gloomy and more moody than March in Minnesota.
